Amedeo Modigliani
The life of Amedeo Modigliani is as fascinating as his works. Yet his motifs are much clearer and true to tradition than many of the excessive phases of his life. Although the artist, who was born in Livorno, Italy in 1884, had good contacts to Picasso, Brancusi and other members of the avant-garde, he felt rather more affinity with the creative work of Cézanne and the Italian Renaissance. Modigliani attained fame with his unique nude studies and the typical portraits with “almond eyes“. He also devoted himself to sculpture. However, the artist was not able to live to see the true dimension of his success. After suffering from severe tuberculosis for many years, he died in Paris in 1920 – thirty years old, in the prime of his life.
