Eugene Boudin

Born at Trouville, France in 1824, Eugene Boudin was one of the first French landscape artists to paint outdoors. He was primarily a marine painter and expert in the rendering of all that goes upon the sea and its’ shores. Dutch 17th century masters profoundly influenced him and in 1857 he met the young Claude Monet. They became lifelong friends and Monet later paid tribute to Boudin’s early influence. Travelling extensively throughout Europe he won several awards for his work before later in his life returning to his home at Deauville where he died in 1898 within sight of Channel waters and skies.
